MIDSUMMA FESTIVAL 2022

SLUTNIK™ is a collaborative work that heavily involves aspects of design, ensemble work, and tech. The script aims to capture the zeitgeist of the ensembles’ 21st-century queer experience, with room for each iteration to adapt to its cast, place, and time. This is a queer work that is celebratory, ballsy, and entertaining. Theatre is an expansive and irreverent medium, and this creative team aims to wholly embody that as a team, whilst creating work that meets high access standards for creatives involved and audiences watching.

Directed by Tansy Gorman and with a script by award-winning playwright Flick, SLUTNIK™ is a love letter to queer relationships and friendships. For Flick, the play idea came about in a conversation with a group of women at a party. When writing the script, Flick wanted to move the dialogue beyond the usual male ejaculatory format.

Rather than begin a violent crusade against those that have wronged them, a group of radical lesbians have said a big ‘fuck you’ to planet Earth, vowing to find a planet less hostile to the female existence. There are 14 days ‘til lift off, and motherboard has initiated very important and very importantly gay training before their intergalactic travels. They’ve not given away their location… but rumour has it that they’ll spend the first few weeks living on the flesh of selected male officials and that they’re headed by absolute icon Jane Fonda (in her Barbarella costume, obviously).

Produced by award-winning production company, Mira Ball Productions, SLUTNIK™ will be showcased by a bold collective of up-and-coming artists. This show is made by queer people, for queer people. It centres queer representation both in form and behind the scenes.
